Summer Reading is fast approaching! Here is what you can do to be ready. We are planning on having registration open the third week in May for all ages. Kids and teens will receive all their reading program supplies upon registration and adults can collect slips to track book titles and prize entries. The actual summer reading program will begin on June 7th and continue through July 31st. It is our hope to have several in person programs this summer and several take home activities so that everyone is able to participate. More information to come in the following weeks.
As stated in Bookmarks last week, we have an opening here at the library for a Youth Services Assistant. There is a full job description and position posting available on our website under “Employment”. This person would work roughly 10 regular hours per week and one Saturday a month. They are also responsible for planning and producing Story Time and other programming for children, as well as promoting our early literacy offerings, so being good with children is a must. We will begin reviewing applications on May 10th, 2021 and continue until the position is filled.
The week-long book sale by the Friends of the Library was the 19th through 24th of April inside of the library. It went well and the friends raised roughly $650! That money will be used for projects and assistance around the library that is not in our annual budget. Some examples of items that the book sale money has funded in the past are the bulletin boards in the children’s department, a picture book bin in the children’s department, the newspaper rack, several bookcases for adult fiction, and summer reading prizes. The Friends of the Library book sale is a lot of work to set up and take down every year and we at the library are grateful for their time and all their hard work. We appreciate all the Friends of the Mondovi Public Library!
A reminder as we enter the month of May, the library will be closed on Saturdays between Memorial Day and Labor Day each year. This is new and was a part of our new hours, implemented last fall, that have us open more hours during the week. The library’s last Saturday open until September will be May 22nd.
